Justice Matters: Ari Teman needs our help. He is being unfairly prosecuted. Ari Teman is facing a long prison sentence but he is not a criminal. He is a tech startup whiz, and the government throwing him in prison could undermine everyone's confidence in the rule of law, the legitimacy of electronic contracts, and the public's faith in the fairness of the justice system.
Famous attorney and defender of civil liberties Alan Dershowitz calls his treatment by federal prosecutors "a grave grave injustice."
Rabbi Pruzansky's Words: Rabbi Pruzansky noted that Ari should not have been prosecuted, and it is a moral obligation to help free him from this unjustice. Discussing the sinister behavior of some landlords and the misconduct of the prosecutors, he wrote:

Helping Others: Volunteers recognize Ari from working with the organization he founded in New York City, serving food to the hungry in a "soup kitchen" alongside other volunteers. Many people want to help others, but Ari goes further. He started a volunteer group that was successful, and he inspired action in many others, helping to create real change in his city and around the world, changing many lives in the process. He founded JCorps, guided it with grace and determination, and facilitated its current leadership to continue its growing success.
JCorps: JCorps was named the first "Social Volunteer Network" in the world, organizing in groups of 20, so that volunteers can, as is JCorps's motto, "Make Friends, and Make a Difference." JCorps has volunteers from over 180 colleges and universities, over 500 companies, and over 20 countries. Volunteers are notified about events via email, Facebook and Twitter and sign up to attend.

GateGuard: Ari Teman started a business with an idea to use advanced technology to offer residential apartment dwellers a service called Gate Guard, an artificial intelligence system that uses web-connected doorbells and cameras.
He put his dynamic skills to productive work and installed his hardware in the buildings of customers, who signed electronic contracts for his service. They agreed to pay a standard monthly fee.
Billing Dispute: When 3 landlords in New York City stopped paying the monthly fee for the service, Ari Teman followed the process agreed to in the electronic contracts they signed. He debited their bank accounts. The customers complained to law enforcement, and they claimed someone they didn't recognize stole their money using "counterfeit financial instruments" - they denied even having a contractual relationship with his company.
These 3 landlords, included in a list of "NYC's worst landlords" lied to law enforcement. And Ari Teman bore the consequences of opposing powerful real estate interests, with the clout to influence how justice is meted out. He refused to plead guilty, enraging prosecutors who adopted a strategy of "convict at all costs" without regard for the truth and without respect for due process.
If the 3 customers honestly wanted to challenge the legitimacy of the electronic agreements they signed with GateGuard, they had the right to do so in court, in a civil process.
Instead they called law enforcement and were dishonest.
Prosecution Continues even after Lies Exposed: Even after these lies came to light and that the 3 landlords had signed up for GateGuard and had used the service, the prosecutors, inexperienced and out for blood, refused to back down. They modified the criminal charges and continued prosecuting Ari Teman.

Prosecutors first looked at GateGuard's Terms and Conditions on its website, that the landlords signed electronically, after almost 6 months of prosecuting him. They refused to acknowledge the validity of these agreed-upon terms, and have thrown into question whether other companies can legally enforce similar electronic contractual terms. Indeed, Ari Teman followed the industry standard used by other tech companies.
Brady Violation: The prosecutors on Ari's case violated a constitutional requirement that they turn over impeachment evidence regarding their primary witness. They were ordered by the Judge to do so, and they promised the Judge they would do it, but they never followed through. The prosecutors not only failed to turn over the evidence, but they actively covered it up. Specifically, the main witness the prosecutors relied on was already shown to be dishonest and untrustworthy having been found to be complicit in an illegal scheme to evict a disabled tenant for financial gain.

"What the prosecution did in the case is just outrageous. The main witness against them had a record of a lack of credibility, of lying distortion and prosecution withheld that, even though the judge told them to go and get evidence, and that they have an obligation under Brady to try to find out events that might show cast doubt on the veracity of the witness, and they sat on their hands, and the evidence that basically proves his innocence didn't come up until after he was convicted. And so now the issue is being raised. And I'm proud to be part of the defense team and go against the prosecution.”
